Elisa Lo Greco

04.11.2019. – 07.09.2020.

Your name: Elisa Lo Greco

Where do you come from? Berlin,Germany

When did you do your volunteering project at Fekete Sereg and how long?

04.11.2019 – 07.09.20 (with a break in between because of Corona.)

What was your motivation to do the project/Why did you decide to be a volunteer (in Hungary)?

It was a great opportunity to do something good and at the same time see something of the world and live abroad. Hungary was very interesting as a host country, because I had hardly any contact with the country, didn’t know about the culture and language before the voluntary service.

What was your project? What was a regular day like?

I worked four days a week as an assistant teacher in the German and English lessons in two primary schools and one day in the local youth centre. On a regular “school day” I went to school in the morning, in the afternoon I went to the youth center in my free time and in the evening I prepared things for the school.

Which is your favourite memory of the time you spent here?

I became very good friends with two Spanish girls I lived in the shared flat and we are still in contact. I appreciate every moment we had together.

A funny memory you’d like to share?

Usually people take a magnet with them as a souvenir, I took a street cat with me that I saved. P.s. Don’t do the same or Rita will have a heart attack.

What do/did you like the most about Nagyvázsony?

Nagyvázsony is a beautiful little village with very friendly people and has a lot to offer. What I love about the area and especially about Hungary itself is that you can travel everywhere by bus for little money. Hungary has so much to offer, so many beautiful places, especially the region around Nagyvázsony.

How was the life in the flat?

Ambivalent:D Sometimes it was hard, especially to have room mates. But I learned a lot about myself, learned to be more patient, willing to compromise and to communicate better. But mostly you will have very nice flatmates and a very good time together.
