When did you do your volun teering project at Fekete Sereg and for how long?

I decided to join the volunteering project at Fekete Sereg from the 14 of July until the 12th of September, it was a short-term project for 2 months.

What was your motivation to do the project/Why did you decide to be a volunteer (in Hungary)?

I always wanted to travel, more specifically in Europe, and live in foreign countries to explore and get to know new cultures and people so this project presented the right motives for me to join. I also have a friend who has participated in this volunteering project before and recommended it to me.

What was your project? What was a regular day like?

My tasks during these 2 months were to support the youth workers of the hosting organization’s youth center and help in the excavations of the archeological project that occurred from late august until september. During the first half of my stay, I would go every day to the youth center and help the youth workers with their work, also I would keep company with the youngsters and learn the Hungarian language from them as well as share stories and life experiences. During the archeological project, I helped to dig and translate some historical documents, and also I helped in the organization of the new volunteers for this specific project.

Which is your favorite memory of the time you spent here?

There is not a favorite memory because every day would be a different day, with something new happening, but I do cherish all the moments I spend on the porch in the volunteer’s house with the friends that I have made on this journey.

What do/did you like the most about Nagyvázsony?

I think what I like the most about Nagyvázsony it’s the tranquility and easy-going life, it reminds me of my hometown.

How was life in the flat?

Life in the flat was very easy and comfortable for me, I am used to living with other people so that was not a problem. But the most important thing is that I got along really well with the other volunteers, even making friendships that could last a long time.

Why would you recommend doing volunteering? Why at Fekete Sereg?

I think it is really important to do this type of project at least once in your life, you can learn a lot about yourself and others, and also about the world and different cultures. I do recommend the project at Fekete Sereg, the community it’s great, the locals are very nice and welcoming and the history in the village it’s really interesting to know and to explore, but for me what makes it so special was the friendships that I created in the youth center, with the youth workers and youngsters, but also with other volunteers.

What are you currently doing in your life? What are your plans for the future?

As for now, I returned to Portugal, to my hometown, and I will start looking for a job in my area of studies and begin my career. For my future, I don’t know what it awaits me but maybe new projects like this one and more traveling around Europe.
